DETROIT CITY CONCERT HALL & YOUTH EDUCATION FACILITY
The failed Wayne County Jail site (now owed by Dan Gilbert’s Rock Ventures) located in downtown Detroit became the motivation for imagining a new use in this partial entertainment district. The vision was to transform the undervalued infrastructure of the existing construction site into a +200,000 sf space that engages the community, and promotes gathering and performance. Students designed a new concert hall venue integrated with a youth education facility in Detroit as a semester long architectural design problem. Graphic presentation boards and film were used to communicate the design throughout the term from site analysis to final design using various 3D Modeling tools (3DMax, Rhino, Grasshopper, ArchiCAD, Sketchup, etc), drawing tablets, Adobe products Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign, and film editing software – Adobe Premiere/After Effects.
