The project was to design a mixed-use development that included 30 mixed-income apartments located on a sloped site in the Pittsburgh Hill District. The students had direct engagement with community representatives and were asked to address the current housing condition.

INTENTIONS:

  • Develop the ability to integrate form and structure in response to the program.
  • Develop a basic understanding of designing on sloping sites.
  • Enhance student research skills and the use of precedence in design.
  • Enhance an understanding universal design accessible to all persons.
  • Enhance an understanding sustainable design.
  • Understand the design challenges of multifamily
